Horse & Dragon Brewing Co. Awarded Inaugural “Dick Jefferies Partner for the Poudre Award”
To recognize our great partners and their contributions to CPRW and our watershed, we have established an award that we hope will become an annual tradition. This award is named after CPRW’s founder, Board Chair, and watershed champion, Dick Jefferies. In April, Dick passed away after a battle with cancer.
Back in 2012, after the High Park and Hewlett Gulch wildfires burned over 90,000 acres of the Poudre watershed, Dick was President of Rocky Mountain Flycasters- a branch of CO Trout Unlimited. Dick knew that the impacts these fires would have on the watershed would be long lasting and that there was a need to mobilize resources to fundraise and implement projects. Out of this vision, the High Park Fire Coalition was born. With Dick at the helm, these initial efforts to accomplish priority restoration work were very successful, and it became clear to him and others the value of having a formal watershed coalition to continue on this important work. In May of 2013, the Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed (CPRW) became an official 501(c3) nonprofit. Dick was CPRW’s board chair from 2013-2017. His foresight and vision for this watershed was simple - that a collaboratively led group should be the driving force to address and meet the challenges that face our watershed.
On May 12, 2002, we were honored to present the Dick Jefferies Partner for the Poudre Award to Carol and Tim Cochran, owners of Horse & Dragon Brewing Company.
“Horse & Dragon is such a special business and their support of CPRW has been unparalleled over the years. Carol & Tim, we truly value your partnership, continued support and your stewardship of our river. From supporting us through your tip jars, Pandamonium, World Water Day & Pub Talks - Thank You for being such a valued Partner for the Poudre.” - Hally Strevey, Executive Director, Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed
