Volunteers Needed for Willow Harvesting - Thursday, May 27th

Volunteers planted over 2,200 willow and cottonwood cuttings at Skin Gulch after the High Park fire of 2012 and the flood of 2013, helping to restore the riparian areas of this important tributary to the Poudre River.

Volunteers planted over 2,200 willow and cottonwood cuttings at Skin Gulch after the High Park fire of 2012 and the flood of 2013, helping to restore the riparian areas of this important tributary to the Poudre River.

We are currently recruiting volunteers (maximum of 12 people) to help harvest willow cuttings to be used for Cameron Peak post-fire restoration efforts in the Upper Poudre Watershed. Please join us for a day of service to help restore the land!

When: Thursday, May 27 from 8:00am - 4:00pm

Where: Meet at Ted's Place (6511 US-287, Laporte, CO 80535) at 8:00am to caravan up to the site located at Rockwell Ranch off Pingree Park Rd. Volunteers are welcome to carpool or drive their own vehicle.

Who: YOU! + City of Greeley, Ayers Associates & Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed

What: Volunteers will be helping to harvest willows for future riparian restoration projects in the Cameron Peak Fire burn area. All tools will be provided, but if volunteers have a preferred set of gloves/garden shears feel free to bring your own.

Why: In 2020, the Cameron Peak Fire burned over 208,000 acres within the Poudre, Big Thompson and Laramie watersheds. Restoration will be critical to helping these watersheds recover from the negative impacts of the fire while protecting drinking water supplies.

If you can join us on Thursday please email Hally Strevey, CPRW's Watershed Project Manager, at hallys@poudrewatershed.org by the afternoon of this Wednesday, May 26. Once Hally has you confirmed she will send you more details about the day.

Thank you all!
