Ben Delatour Scout Ranch Plans for 2022 Winter Pile Burning
Fort Collins, CO – The Ben Delatour Scout Ranch will be conducting slash pile burning during the winter months as weather conditions allow. The ranch has been conducting several forest management treatments over the past few years with assistance from the Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed, Larimer County Conservation Corps, The Ember Alliance, the Natural Resource Conservation Service, The Wildlands Restoration Volunteers, The Nature Conservancy, Colorado State Forest Service and numerous volunteers. Each winter slash piles from these projects are burned to remove excess fuel from the forest floor.
Burning will occur when conditions specified by the county are met and personnel are available. This includes an adequate snow cover and favorable smoke dispersal conditions. Smoke will be visible during daylight hours, but all fires will be extinguished by nightfall.
The Scout ranch is located south of the Red Feather Road (county road 74E) and on both sides of the Boy Scout Road (68C) for approximately 4 miles covering 3,200 acres.
Prescribed fire smoke may affect your health. For more information see https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdphe/wood-smoke-and-health.
